Throughout its lifetime it has experienced a variety of different owners and purposes, yet most of the temple still stands today and attracts many tourists to the Athenian Acropolis every year. Capture your memories of travelling to this wonder in the centre of Athenians with this intricate and detailed Parthenon Art Piece
The Parthenon was a temple dedicated to Athena, the Patron God of Athens. Construction finished on the Parthenon in 432 BC after victory over the Persians in battle meant many of the Greek states turning to the powerful Athens, essentially leading to a wealthy Athens and the form of the Athenian empire as we know it. Along with its cultural significance, architecturally, the Parthenon is one of the most interesting buildings there is. Throughout the entirety of the building there is not a single 90 degree angle with all the columns and flooring being slightly curved in every plane. This is a method called enstatis, where the building avoided the human phenomena of optical sagging. This also included the swelling of the Doric order columns in the centre to counter this optical sagging where straight columns appear thinner in the centre than the top.
Original art pieces are the best way to catch the character of the building and the drawing style. Faint pencil lines may be seen in some original drawings, however, this simply add story and process to an art piece. Originals are all ‘one off’ drawings however the artist retains the right to the copyright of the piece and is still able to sell prints of the piece.
