The Pantheon is a now Catholic Church in Rome which was served many functions throughout the ages. Originally being a Roman Pagan Temple. The Pantheon that stands today was built around 126 AD after the original burnt down. Hadrian, the Roman emperor at the time commissioned the piece and for it to have the same inscription upon in that the former did, commissioned by Marcus Agrippa. Hence, as the inscription is that of the earlier temple, we cannot know the exact date of construction. The Pantheon has a Rotunda on the front façade which opens up into its iconic Rotunda which houses world’s largest unsupported dome. In the centre of this rotunda is the oculus which allows natural light to pierce through the Pantheon.
Interestingly, the diameter of the Pantheons Rotunda and the height is exactly the same. This is no coincidence as Roman Architects payed close attention to a buildings mathematics and proportions just like the Greeks.
Original art pieces are the best way to catch the character of the building and the drawing style. Faint pencil lines may be seen in some original drawings, however, this simply add story and process to an art piece. Originals are all ‘one off’ drawings however the artist retains the right to the copyright of the piece and is still able to sell prints of the piece.
